Invertebrates are animals without a backbone. They have the unfortunate pleasure of being near the bottom of most food chains but go for strength in numbers and greatly outnumber other animals, accounting for 95% of all animal species.

Invertebrates are some of the most useful animals to have in the garden and they form a nice little team of workers to help you along with your gardening. They include insects, spiders, earthworms and molluscs, such as snails. Many people see them as pests or nuisances and would quite happily stamp on them, but invertebrates are incredible creatures that are not only extremely valuable but also fascinating and beautiful!
